Student Volunteer Information
|
The majority of staffing at the HAVEN Free Clinic is provided by student volunteers that participate at the Clinic on Saturdays or in various other roles throughout the week. Current YSM, YSN, EPH, or PA students interested in volunteer opportunities are needed. Spanish-English Translator positions are also available to current Yale undergraduate and graduate students. Interested students should contact Rachel Jamison (rachel.jamison@yale.edu) for additional information.
Please note that the HIPAA training program, available online here, must be completed prior to volunteering at the HAVEN Free Clinic.

| Patient Services |
Greet patients, make appointments, assemble charts, provide
information about our services and other health services in
the area, and distribute initial patient paperwork.
Basic Spanish skills (comprehension) preferred.
Undergraduates with some Spanish knowledge are encouraged to sign up for Front Desk.

| Health Education |
Obtain and distribute health education material, present information
about specific topics to patients one-on-one or in a group education
session. Or, participate in community-based educating at the Fair Haven
Greenmarket on Thursdays between 3 and 7pm.
|
| Social Services |
Screen patients for medical and social service eligibility, help patients
fill out insurance and prescription drug paperwork, assist patients in
accessing vision care and dental care, assist patients with programs to
cover medical debt, and follow-up on any necessary forms during the week.
|
| Interpreter |
Provide translation services for non-English speakers, particularly
Spanish speakers.
|
| Junior Clinical Team Member |
Take and record patient's vital signs and chief complaint.
Work with senior clinical team member and attending nurse practitioner or physician
to obtain history, conduct physical exam, and deliver
treatment plan. Obtain and deliver medication. Assist patient in obtaining services from other
areas of the clinic (i.e. laboratory, education, pharmacy, etc.).

Obtain history and conduct physical exam. Work with attending nurse
practitioner or physician to deliver treatment plan. Mentor junior clinical
team member (help educate about history and
physical, treatment plans, etc.).

| Pharmacy |
Help patients to get the meds that they need at low or no-cost! Assist with pill counting, work with clinical teams to identify drugs that fit both budget constraints and medical needs, determine patient eligibility for Pharmaceuticals Assistance Programs, and conduct monetary transactions.

| Phlebotomist |
Performs all blood draws, UA, rapid strep test, BHGC tests and other basic laboratory tests. Prior phlebotomy experience required. If you are interested in volunteering in the lab please contact Brian Ju (brian.ju@yale.edu) to sign up.

HAVEN Free Clinic is supported by donations from people like you. A contribution of any size helps us better serve our patient population in a range of ways. For example, your donation might be used to help provide medication to control a patient's high blood pressure, or to provide educational materials to several patients on a topic such as diabetes.
